Corolla Lighthouse | Currituck Beach Lighthouse

The Currituck Beach Lighthouse was the last of the major brick lighthouses built on the Outer Banks. It was left unpainted to distinguish it from the other lighthouses on the Outer Banks. Filling the remaining "dark spot" on the North Carolina coast between Cape Henry and Bodie Island its beacon was lit on December 1, 1875. Standing 162 feet its beam is visible 18 miles. The Currituck Beach Lighthouse has been fully restored over the past couple of decades by Outer Banks Conservationists Inc. with private donations. Recently the Department of the Interior awarded ownership to the group. Currituck Beach Lighthouse is located in Corolla, NC and is open for climbing from Easter to Thanksgiving.
